Music can help you

Learn, Think and Read Faster

In the late 1950s, Dr. Alfred Tomatis began his experiments in auditory stimulation for children with speech and communication disorders using the music of Mozart. He discovered Mozart’s music had the amazing ability to reduce stress, anxiety and depression. The speed of music affects relaxation or sleep, invigorates the body and helps to boost memory or awareness.

By 1990, hundreds of educational centers throughout the world used Mozart's music to help children with learning problems. Thousands of pre-schools played Mozart’s music in the background to boost creativity.

Politicians have even jumped on the Mozart Effect bandwagon. On June 22, 1998, the governor of the state of Georgia, who was so impressed with the research, started distributing free CDs with classical music to the parents of every newborn baby in his state.

Research revealed playing music early in life helps build the neural pathways that allow language, memory and spatial development to take place.  A popular study entitled “Music and Spatial Task Performance” showed students who listened to Mozart prior to testing scored higher marks in an intelligence test.  This was published in Nature Magazine in 1993.

But research from the medical community was about to unseal a little known secret.

A Medical Doctor’s Startling Discovery

Dr. John Diamond’s medical credentials would seem to take him far away from research into music.  As an award winning psychiatrist, the Australian born, Dr. Diamond became a professor at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, one of the nation’s leading medical schools in New York.  After many years in the forefront of his field, Dr. Diamond launched a new career, preventative medicine.

Over the course of his long career in medicine, Dr. Diamond has undertaken a significant amount of research into many healing modalities, which form the basis of his understanding of and unique approach to the nature of disease.

Today, Diamond practices as a Holistic Consultant and blends his experience in medicine, psychiatry, complementary medicine, the humanities, holism, applied kinesiology, acupuncture theory, spirituality and the arts, especially music, to help people overcome problems relating to body, mind and spirit.

Dr. Diamond was stunned to discover that musical conductors out-live and continue to work and produce far longer than the average American male.  In fact, the majority of conductors are at work well into their 80’s!  Why do these maestros live so long in a world filled with heart attacks, strokes and debilitating disease?

Diamond’s research using behavioral kinesiology testing revealed the human body responds differently to various musical sounds and beat combinations – even when our ears can’t hear them!  The body senses and reacts to sound even if one has their ears completely blocked.

Surrounded by the right sounds, we can become invigorated, energized and balanced.  Add the right sounds to a learning environment and intelligence, absorption, understanding and creativity  take off.  Surrounded by the wrong sounds, our bodies get sick and die before their time.

Tapping Into Your Natural Genius

Rhythm is the organizing structure of the Universe. The entire human body and all bodies are composed of light and sound - music and color in rhythm.

In all songs, the rhythm is even, but since the 60's the emphasis of the rhythm in much of rock music has changed. Natural rhythm is a 1-3 rhythm, the accent falls on counts 1 and 3. This rhythm is in agreement with the rhythm of the Universe.

In most rock music of today the accent has shifted to accents on counts 2 and 4. With this rhythmic emphasis, the body and universe move into stress and out of alignment.

Found in Dr. Diamond’s research, a person may lose up to 60% of their muscle strength while listening to some heavy metal and heavy rock. He also tested the effect of over 20,000 songs and  found other negative effects of listening to the 2-4 beat music.

With much research, Dr. Georgi Lozanov’s concluded that music at 60 beats per minute, "Learning Rhythm" helps to synchronize your heart beat, brain waves and breathing thus accessing your 12 intelligences.

Learning becomes much easier – even automatic - with music at this speed.  Music at other speeds has other great benefits but at 60 beats you can begin accessing your genius mind.
